We also know from some Livers (and many other Vtubers back this claim up in general) that Vod Views/passive viewers are just as valuable than live CCV, sometimes even more because it persists past the actual stream. So they do infact have other jobs or incomes, some more famously than others, but low numbers doesn't mean too much other than numberfagging, because streaming to 100+ on YT alone, with good CTR, is still decent money.
why would they need to go through with incredibly PR harming plans when they can just coast by with the seemingly low overhead they have and still acceptable revenue from their whales. Or just downsizing all events.

just want to add to this. Hololive probably has several internal ways talents supplement their income or at least covers some of the expenses to keep things smooth I think Phase and even Vshojo also do this to a much lesser degree
If they are not braindead, they should, Internet entretainment is fickle as fuck and betting you life on being a chuuba is a quick way to rely on foodstamps or go into debt (I'm looking at you twisty). The ones that hit it big do have their life done as long as they don't try to diddle a minor or do something utterly dumb, but for every successful content creator, there are hundreds or thousands more that can't reach 10 viewers.

I legitimately think Bettel won over a good chunk of Luxiem fans. My money's on the OG Luca/Mysta fans from 2022, Bettel does the "boyfailure" bit much better than those two and they dropped off the hardest out of Luxiem in 2023 IIRC.
I'm pretty sure Mysta even recommended his fans to check out Bettel before he graduated, instead of any of his branchmates.
