Hyperbolic, but she isn't wrong. There are far too many people that work so hard to avoid all suffering in life they never develop the skills to deal with the suffering. Confronting it head on and learning to accept it and deal with it is by far the superior way to go through life.
Depending on what the kid thinks, that'd be wishy-washy, because it wasn't 100% full throated support. That's all I'm saying. You can never win while parenting, something will always be too hard, too harsh.
Could be, though I think her parents were probably a lot like mine, where I still like them now, but growing up it was shitty. I think a big thing parents do is they either support hobbies too much or discount them completely and openly to the point of calling them stupid to the child, instead of trying to support or oppose in a way to have the child take away the useful bits of the hobby.
It's also important to teach kids how to identify how to make the best out of failed passions, because sure they might not end up making it as a content creator, but you can still come away with skills in public speaking, video editing, and being able to learn different software packages and piecing them together. Get into the mind of taking risks on things like that, where it doesn't really cost you much and you can come away with something useful even if you don't pursue it.
