Can confirm, I have a couple of offline friends & their wives who register Republican but vote Democrat. The thinking being that they can attempt to help drag the Republican party closer to center while actually voting Dem.

Context here: shooter was a PA resident, and PA has closed primaries (i.e. only registered party members can vote in their respective party's primaries; independents have no say whatsoever). In 2022, which was the only election the shooter participated in, there was a major drive by Democrats to get their people to change their party to Republican so they could "sabotage" the R. primary, which is how that extremist lunatic Doug Mastriano became the candidate for governor and promptly got annihilated in the general election against Josh Shapiro, because moderates in PA weren't willing to vote for a guy who identified as a Christian fundamentalist and dominionist and QAnon true believer.
Basically, political gayops. "Hi, I identify as a Republican, but Donald Trump is a racist, sexist, far-right Nazi and a threat to our democracy, wouldn't you agree?"
Registering with a party doesn't immediately change your political beliefs. I could register with the Communist Party tomorrow, but that wouldn't mean I suddenly agree with anything on their platform.

Im going to call it and just say that the shooter is just an obvious schizo. It isn’t that shocking. I mean the guy who self-immolated himself earlier this year (his Reddit account was found until reddit deleted it- he was unironically an Anarchist) was also just clearly insane. And that other guy who brought a gun and tried to hunt Trump down on that golf course a few weeks ago- if you saw his Twitter account, he acted like a bot. According to the TVTropes ruling, "Thumped" is usually associated with people derailing the thread, so best guess is Nolan trying to make a defense on what he did that irked the mod (overuse of "LETS FUCKING GO" or f-word in general) but it's seen as derailing the thread and got thumped with a stick.
Notice how his posts after that reduced the all caps LETS FUCKING GO and all that exciting wording he used, with him only using an f-word once because he got no clue what the HoloJP girls are doing on his latest post.
