And thats sort of the problem, its like any other mental issue. If someone is shunned for seeking help for something when they've done nothing wrong yet, but are worried they will, they are just gonna keep it bottled up until they do something stupid.
It's not a smart topic to discuss in an unedited format when you're not great at articulating yourself.
On a serious note, I believe anyone who has a genuine attraction to children has a responsibility to proactively seek out a resolution, preferably involving sterilisation to kill their sex drive. Otherwise you end up with the twitter MAPs who feel comfortable with feelings they 100% should not be comfortable about, because they can pat themselves on the back for not offending yet. Even people with normal attractions toward grown adults can become unhinged without an outlet, see the murder/rapist incels, so I don't believe someone who is into kids won't eventually hurt a child.
