Okay, I need to nerd out for a moment: he wasn't actually a Nazi. The Waffen SS got really weird in the late war, and they started to recruit all over. The 14th Waffen Grenadier division weren't subscribers to the German National Socialist ideology, they were just fighting against the Russians for a free Ukraine.
