His treatment makes sense to me. Everything looked like he murdered his girlfriend. Why expect them to treat him with care?

Because he could have dropped dead in the interrogation room and they would have lost the only lead.

they cant hold him in custody forever, and giving him time to come up with an alibai or stonewalling would fuck the case.
