Can confirm, the combat is designed by the guy that did the Devil May Cry 3 combat, you gain more power-sets to switch to on-the-fly (like some sort of "style change", you could say), the further you go in the game, to the point where you're constantly managing cooldowns and situational combos between all of the different elements. There's an Arcade Mode where you can replay each "stage" to see how high of a score you can get, and NG+ increases the difficulty even further while raising the level cap and granting the "Ultima Weapon" craft.
If you're not using the easy-mode accessories and are not on story-focused gameplay difficulty, it's a pretty involved game
