Cope and incorrect. Scuttling charges were detonated, after the ship was already fucked by all accounts and was getting greased by the British. The only things lamer than the fucking Bismarck are the HMS Hood, and the entire Italian navy.

They fired the main battery once and it ripped out all of the cabling for their incredibly Germanic and overdesigned rangefinder.
(They didn't test this beforehand, this happened on the Bismarck's first and only outing, resulting in them accidentally deleting the Hood from existence and then being unable to anything.)
