Short story time. Suiika, a vtuber rigger and artist, releases a high-quality vtuber model: well-rigged, easily customizable, all for about $115. She's spent a year working on this project to get everything right for release. You'd have to spend a lot more than that to get something of a similar level of quality elsewhere.

Example customizations:
As you can see, while there are some similarities - understandable since you're using a base template and modifying it - it's pretty easy to change skin colour, outfit style and colour, eye colour, add ear types, hair ornaments, and so forth. If you don't have a model and you just want to start streaming, it looks great and is a pretty good deal, is what I'm saying.
Now, let's get into how it all went wrong:
First, there were no "people of colour" hair styles. Suiika couldn't draw them to the standard she wanted, and she couldn't afford to commission hair styles, so didn't initially include them. That's worth hate mail and harrassing Suiika, apparently.

Next, people decided to give away her model files for free, and without crediting Suiika for her work.

Oh, and it was also apparently too expensive.

tl;dr fuck everyone involved in ruining what should have been a great moment for this woman. EDIT: Stopped being a yamanba and archived tweets and added links.
