I think vtubers in China could publish their name (does this law actually say they need to publish a photo too or is that you exaggerating?) and carry on the same, and I'm baffled that they'd rather stop streaming than do that.

And how much good did it do them? The medium already works like this in practice. I just get annoyed at all the sekrit knowledge kabuki around it.
I get annoyed at people who can't shut the fuck up about it, if I'm watching a vtuber, I like the character they are portraying, I don't give a shit about how they look or who they are, most people who look for PL in my experience are just looking for dirt on the talent like with Aloe to try to cancel or harass the person. It has never been secret, if you wanna know then just type the person's name and look for it.
The only times I see PL get brought up constantly is parasocials who are in actual deranged love with the person and wanna know every single thing the person does, people who talk about year's old drama which doesn't even matter anymore and people who stalk their alternate accounts to see if there's any movement to doom about the corpo, that's fucking it.
