In hindsight there is so many things that Remake does wrong that it's no surprise that Rebirth is a flop.

The biggest one is that Sephiroth is even in it. Expanding Midgar to its own thing. Sure whatever, on the front I would say it did it well. But the early and constant reveals of Sephiroth which lets be real only exists for newbies and normies who would go "WHERE IS SEPHIROTH, DADDY SEPHIROTH" or whatever gay fujo shit they'd spaz out about, completely ruin the pacing of Remake and also when compared to how the OG did it just made the story kind of suck. Then you have the time bitches on top of it

So you have a game that isn't a remake, but a sequel but also follows the OG so much but literally does everything worse from a story and story progression angle. Not unlike the Modern Warfare reboot

So since we have 7 why on Earth would we want to play shittier versions of that story?

Considering this is the PC release 11 months after the PS5 release, this might actually be the best "mostly Sony/Sony-exclusive" PC launch in a very long time. It's not what I'd call a massive hit, but it'll have paid for its PC port.

Spider-Man 1 cost Sony $50 million to port to PC according to the Insomniac leak. While this is Square instead of Sony, if the PC port for Rebirth is even a fifth of that in cost, there's a very good chance it didn't pay for itself, especially when you consider the Steam price is $49 and the Steam cut of 30%.

Assuming $10 million went into porting this:
They need to make $14.285 million in sales. At $50 per copy, that's 285,714 copies. This game has barely broke 40k peak concurrent players. So being generous and assuming even a 2.5 ratio of purchasers vs peak, that's still only 100k copies. Fuck, the port could have cost $5 million to make and they'd still be down at least $1 million.

Never let Nomura cook again unless it's Kingdom Hearts. Combined with the fact that OG FF7 was a full complete game while this Remake/Rebirth nonsense is three separate games which kills the plot momentum when the gaps between releases is too long.

I'm one of those people that never played Final Fantasy so I was considering trying out the FF7 remake until I found out that they completely strained the fuck out of the story to fit it into not just 2 parts but 3 parts. I've already seen the Hobbit movie trilogy, I'm not falling for that garbage again.

The man has some interesting ideas but multiple timelines, faux dating sims and it being a pseudo sequel to Advent Children wasn't exactly what anyone asked or wanted. Combined with the fact that OG FF7 was a full complete game while this Remake/Rebirth nonsense is three separate games which kills the plot momentum when the gaps between releases is too long.

I hate that it's a pseudo sequel. Advent Children, for all its bad and hammy writing, completed Cloud's story. I didn't ask for more. I just wanted FF7 but with Advent Children-like graphics.
