I'm not saying asexuality can't exist or is inherently woke, but most of the people who've claim asexuality end up expressing sexual interest/interest in media for sexual elements which disqualifies them from being asexual. Fuck this "asexuality is a spectrum" shit, the "a" part of the word means none/no and in front of the word sexuality it literally means no sexuality.
Doesn't Gigi read yaoi?
Human attraction and psyche is much more complicated and nuanced than a simple on/off switch, so ofc there can be gradients towards what asexuality even is.
And besides, have you never read/watched something fictional that does not interest you irl?
Personally, I enjoy shows/anime with Tsundere characters. I find them fun and entertaining to see on the screen. But I would never want to be together with a tsundere IRL. That seems like a major pain in the ass. I enjoy something fictional whose irl equivalent absolutely puts me off.
We don't know the specifics about Gigis sexuality, but seriously claiming its fake because she reads books about fictional gay men is stupid. Gigi is interested in Romance, maybe she reads for those and just skips the sex pages. I have read fanfiction where the sex was the least interesting part of the story too. Its not contradictory to enjoy the fictional version of one thing and not enjoy the same thing irl.
and labelling it to the point of implying mental illness/minority status ("demisexual") is fucking insane and in truth, really just a repeat of "I have high functioning autism because I like <enter hobby here>!" attention whoring and trying to get the oh so desirable status of oppressed twitter minority when the social milieu they came from before touching the internet was the most boring middle class imaginable. I agree entirely!
Also, just touching on the "demiromantic" bit. Do not ask me what a demiromantic is, I got no idea. But just using those terms and words on their own is not a sign of mental illness, nor proof that she wants ally herself with the genderspecials. Its a product of her upbringing, of where she spent her formative internet years, namely Tumblr. She is familiar and identifies with those terms because she took a thousand different personality quizzes back in the day. She is that deep in those terms that she didnt even think about explaining them for the layman. She (rightfully) assumes her audience is already familiar with those words.
Putting the label of mentally ill on someone just because they use certain words is way too easy.
You know what sounds mentally ill to me, much more than saying "Demiromantic"?
"Woke" is intersectional feminism or race Marxism (it's the same White Supremacist religion in the end, but it just depends on the outcropping), but what Gigi did was get a little too close to the truly deranged. Normalizing language that makes pathological normal human interaction sets is always a terrible idea. She's now going to have to cull the fanbase in the near future because these idiots understand nothing but their own insanity.
This whole paragraph does. But maybe not to other people. I dont go ahead and call him mentally ill, just because I read a bunch of non-sense words (to me).
But maybe I should. Plenty of other factors besides mental illness could decide why he chose to express himself like that.
Expressing yourself in a certain way is no way to conclude mental illness.
She has been, at worse, been groomed by the Tumbr thought police and bubble, but that on its own doesn't make her mentally ill. This could apply to plenty of other Vtubers as well.
