Saying someone made an "attempt" rather than explicitly spelling out that it was a "suicide attempt" is already the gentle wording used by people who are trying to be considerate. But the thing is, there is no limit to how oversensitive people will be, so now just using the word "attempt" in any context is enough to trigger them. Over the next few years they'll probably find another replacement word/phrase for it, and the cycle will begin again.
