I can give her the excuse that maybe when she read it she was exposed to a lot of media with the same concepts. It's easy to find something corny if you've seen a lot of that trope prior, sort of how if you heaver a cover first that ends up being the original to you.
Brave New World had the benefit of using reward as opposed to punishment to keep people in line which made it good. Even Anthem falls in the space but it uses forced equality by state mandate, which is still punishment not reward.
Disagree, if only because Brave New World is the more accurate allegory for what's currently happening in the world today. People putting up with authoritarian bullshit because of bread and circuses.
