It's a mix, a lot of the characters are original to the show but a good chunk of the main cast like Singed, Vi, Caitlyn, Jinx, and Jayce are all in the game.

Most anime is mass produced junk, but the highs of anime are much higher and more often than the highs of Western media currently which is exceptionally dogshit thanks to ESG and DIE.
