Depends on the bird but usually the larger ones don't die so easily, generally the smaller the bird the more sensitive it will be to things like chemicals and smoke. Also of course the age of the thing can make it even more sensitive.
Part of me thinks some of Pippa's previous birds died because their lungs were weakened by things like mold spores and whatever chemicals they were exposed to were the last straw.
Both suck for me because I have usually have stuff in the day to do and I actually try to go to sleep around this time.
