The issue stemming from the misuse of the word doxing. As in when Coco graduated, people in her chat kept reporting on anyone mentioning Kson as a "doxer". This is why I believe "my forbidden knowledge" retards should disappear.
Yeah, I must have hallucinated all those times that Kanata told stories about Coco, and then Kson told the same exact stories about her friend Pajakko. That never happened, certainly not multiple times.
Wasn't Coco also known as an outsider whose fame mostly stemmed from defying convention, redefining what it meant to be a vtuber in opposition to the establishment at the time, and deliberately bucking the rules in pursuit of expanding the scope of acceptable content?
My point still stands though; until Selengate, it was never normalized for that kind of thing. It was an exception not a rule, and we all know just how much flak both Coco and Mori got for daring to buck the trend. Try going to any of the major hubs for vtuber discussion and ask about vtuber PL's before 2023 and you'd probably catch a ban. Even today there are still twitter mobs who go after people who dare do it, but they're getting smaller and more isolated by the day, as they very much ought to be.
This has nothing to do with the website and everything to do with the way to industry has changed in the last two years. Prior to around late 2023, PL info was still gatekept and it was considered a major taboo for even the talent themselves to openly hint they used to be X or would become Y. Now you have whole organized groups that shoutout and signpost new accounts for old fans to find. This is a good thing; PL taboo's were a useless holdover from Japanese idol culture that never made sense in vtubing, and only let bad actors do stealth rebrands and shed their prior associations more easily.
This forum's cultural changes have nothing to do with randoms on twitter and reddit.
People used to care and gatekeep here. People stopped giving a shit after the threadsplit. That's it.

I'd argue that what changed things in this forum was the 2024 small corpo mass extinction event, given how comparatively oriented towards smaller vtubers the TVA is. Suddenly you had dozens of girls having to pull out their old personas from cold storage or making new ones, and people here both trying to keep straight who was who in the new collabs and signal boosting their oshis.
We can't really protest about "le sekrit knowledge" when we openly spent months tracking vagueposts in obscure ancient PL Twitter accounts to try to suss out what went on at the dying agencies.
Haven't the "Lazarus Pit" and "Not-" threads been here forever? I'm not sure i get what this one is about, since what Proctor's proposing this time is basically what this place already has, just more organized.

threads that were for the most part ignored that no one asked for and probally should of had far more pushback but all of us were riding high off good vibes and being better then the kiwifarms thread.

Pretty valid point. My perspective was primarily external to the forum. We're a tiny speck of the larger industry ecosystem and perception, which ends up being disproportionately influenced by external trends, either by championing them or becoming exceptionally resistant to them. In this case, we embraced PL openness after this incident. A contrary example would be things like Steel Rat's desire to turn normies into vtubers, or things like the vtuber vs IRL comparison trends, which TVA users in my estimation have been vehemently against and contemptuous towards. There's been a few people who're still against the idea of actively cataloguing PL info, but the trend towards acceptable has generally run parallel to the broader trend of doing the same in the industry overall.

...I'm sorry, i know i haven't been here long, but i personally do not recall there ever being any pushback against people asking for PLs of chuubas, as long as they weren't obnoxious about it.
and today one of the most active threads on the forum is a thread where people obsessively catalogue a chuuba's RM's instagram stories lmao

There never has been. Not one single report has ever been filed about PL info being here. I've even gotten pushback for drawing lines in the sand like the unnecessary reposting of IRL pictures. Exceptions only come from people like Blackjack joining purely to ask 'hey can i find this fucking bitches details? i wanna anti or stalk her kthxbye'. People in general have the attitude that you should do your own research (which I do agree with to a point), rather than 'the info shouldn't be here at all'.

gee could that be because no one uses the report function FUNNY almost like you know that and complain about it constantly weird of you to just forget that.
No lurker/farmer uses the report function just because we don't doesn't mean we are fine with all your nonsense.
if i had to guess people being much more unhappy in general means unwillingness to let bullshit slide. At least that's why I started being annoyed at proctor.
I guess what i'm really trying to ask here is whether the current pushback is actually principled or exclusively backed by the fact that it's Proctor who is proposing the idea.
Yeah while social media has made it easier for the crazies to interact with their target of obsession and made the public more aware of it this is hardly a new thing like this movie from the 90s shows: The Fan (1996).
Who was the HoloEN member that kept putting really obvious references to her PL in her music videos back in like 2021? The one that talked a bunch about her Holo job on her PL streams. Got doxxxxxed by her grandma on a Christmas stream or something. Pipkin Pipka or something?
Yeah but if you were utterly unaware of her PL you wouldn't know. I don't think I even heard of it until she had been Calli for at least a couple years.

Yeah after SelenGate we then had Serafi/Alien Mixture and then when Fauna announced her graduation I saw even people like Lidia and even False flat out going "by the way you should check out someone named LemonLeaf *wink wink nudge nudge*". The most recent nail in the coffin was during the closure of PixelLink, the four girls who didn't buy out their IPs not only got their PLs announced during their graduation streams (Arisu/Toffee and Chio/Rebbie even did it themselves during their graduations) but the PixelLink Twitter account also retweeted the debut streams of Rebbie and Lazuli. If you go to their graduated YouTube channels each has a link to their new channel in the description.

I'm not a documentarian if you want to know what happened (i think you were there for most of it) your better looking it up yourself but the gist is
People are unhappy with proctor not just for making changes but for making changes even when there is heavy opposition to the idea on top of other debacles like Alex or RRat having his react ability removed (and yet jamby as been migoing everyone since then and yet to receive a similar restriction)
Edit: I feel like its worth mentioning Proctor claims there is a similar amount of people who agree with him which we never see so he's either counting the discord (why) or he's lying (why and also seek help)
suffice to say were all grateful for the site but that goodwill has run out.
Yes i was, hence my puzzlement now, because i read this backwards and fully expected the situation to be "Proctor's doing something very retarded again", but what i got instead was...kinda basic?
Though perhaps this is my limited experience of the medium talking, i started watching chuubas right as Selen/11 was ramping up, so for me the concept of "forbidden knowledge" has been a bit odd from the get-go. I imagine the perspective of people who've been around longer might be quite different.

Nah proctors not doing anything (well chart autism) this time.....yet.
Edit: Forbidden knowledge has always been an odd and sore spot for a lot of people I personally would rather not even document obscure pieces of information people should not suffer for lapses in judgment their whole lives especially if it comes from family or relatives being retarded with opsec but not everyone will agree with that

People always talked about the "forbidden knowledge" here and on KF, but generally being an annoying fuck about it on twitter or more visible places was looked down upon. Selengate kinda broke down barriers surrounding it, so now you have retards on twitter telling Kiara that Ame is streaming as Dooby, as if she didn't know. Or you have people getting assmad after being told to stop being spergs about PLs on social media. But that's just a byproduct of the vtuber "community" becoming significantly more gay, cynical and infested by drama tourists since Nijisanji lit itself on fire.
