Any genwunners out there; go ahead and count how many gen 1 pokemon are variations on 'literally just a ball'.

The manga had the villain brainwashed the adults with psychic pokemons. First mainline manga arc with 0 gym battle since all the gym leaders left their post to join the villain side after getting brainwashed or some thing.

As someone who literally just finished S&V, there's a story?

It's one of the worst fucking open world games I've played. I had to get a guide just to figure out the right order cause I kept going to the wrong gyms and bosses. Even in games that don't hold your hand you can still tell when you're in the wrong area quickly however in S&V you might be in the right area for the boss pokemon but need to come back 15 levels later for the team boss and 30 for the gym leader. While the respective properly leveled enemies are in two other completely different regions the opposite side of the map. There's even a quest log in the game they clearly should have used for the main story to let you know where to go but for some reason they just decided not to use it.

Wild area in Sw&Sh sucked too and Arceus was tedious. Gamefreak should stick to more linear map design.

S&V isn't the worst mainline Pokemon game, Gen 7 takes that title, and there are a few pokemon i like from it ; but my god did they fuck up the open world.

I think zoned in areas that have openess to them (think Dragon Age Inquisition) based around a town/city or natural landmark that you progress linearly through is how they should do it. still gives a bit of open world vibe but because there is implied distance between the cities you can jump from a desert biome to lake or marsh and it doesn't seem stupid.

Edit: Also giving the player the ability to fly and climb any mountain sucks because it removes any illusion about the size and distance of anything. Two towns that a quater of the region apart from each other and yet the distance actual distance between the two is actually closer than my local grocery store. Fine when there is a mountain blocking the view and i can pretend, but when the "mountain" is climbable (and the size of a office building) it kinda ruins that.

Edit 2: Also if you aren't going to give the gyms/bases/titans variable strengths based on how many you have all ready beaten then don't make they "orderless",just tell me the damn order.

Not like Pico+Memory duo interacts with Loki+Yuu duo all that much...or not like Yuu+Loki duo can even be called a proper duo. Kaleido's weird when it comes to gen unity tbh, but yes, Clara's definitely an odd one out, which, i guess, is inevitable due to her being the whitest fucker in all of Phase, but she doesn't do herself much favors either.
