MEASURABLE improvements in reaction and input times leading the older players complaining that it's "cheating" the players who have adapted being treated as if they need "the crutch" and newer players with a chip on their shoulder getting bodied by older players making the people who do use it look like morons by association
The one mark it had against it was it's ability to process two opposing directional inputs at a time which in certain games allows for otherwise impossible tech which further strengthened the cheating allegations (so much so Capcom banned it's use) Nowadays hitboxes are configurable with an option that disables said advantage.
