Or assigned read-only access, at the least.
That would be better than nothing, but it's still too easy to access degeneracy and be subject to mentally harmful experiences, especially with how inattentive many parents are. Simplest way is to ban the internet entirely.
I know a lot of older people who should have been banned from the internet. And teenagers, who are much more mature than many adults. It's not about age, and it never has been.
I don't care how mature a young teenager is, they should not be given free access to all of the degeneracy and pornography that is on the internet, let alone opportunities for private conversations with adults who may not have the teen's best interests at heart.
This had got to be some kind of demented joke.
Given the extensive mental illness, social issues, and anti-social behaviour we're seeing from the post-iphone generations where 24/7 internet access is the norm, I don't see how this can be a contentious point. That level of unrestricted over-socialisation is obviously a detriment to mental and emotional development.
I know what sort of shit a kid can find on the internet and get into if left unmonitored, and it's for that reason my kids don't get the same wild west experience. Just because some people buck trends and are outside the norm doesn't excuse that, they're the exception that proves the rule.

I was actually able to catch her streaming Armored Core 6 yesterday since I had the day off. I don't know too much about the game because I haven't played it yet, but I know it's gotten a reputation for being pretty tough. I was in and out for a bit, but I know she was stuck on a boss for a while and was getting pretty heated. Even some minor desk slams here and there, but she finally ended up beating it, and she was super happy and proud of it. Was nice to watch. Good for her. Been wanting to watch some more of her lately.
