To answer your question, most people (but not all) tend to watch a bit from various corpos and indies. When threads are split, it's harder to keep track of smaller indies or corpos that aren't as popular. Split threads could work great for specific events. Might even work for liveposting, but it's useless for general discussion.

I mostly only use general so i did not pay attention to the other threads, so the options at hand are limited to the merge or just nuke them and keep cluttering General, but by now only 2 people had say they want it, not a good metric to go with it

look if the issue you have is people shitting on small indies and Nijisanji, you could keep those 2 threads and let everyone else back on the General thread.
