Re: Dragon Age, I think blaming everyone involved - executives, game developers and writers - is fair. The writers wrote a shit story with characters no-one liked. The developers didn't present compelling gameplay, and there are plenty of RPGs with shit story but are salvaged by great gameplay. And the executives hired the wrong people to help oversee the development of the game, and repeatedly refused to course correct as they received pre-release and testing builds to gauge game development progress.

I hope they all lose their jobs. No-one involved should be insulated from the consequences of all the bad decisions that went into making that turd.

I'm more concerned on where these folks will end up next.

If EA continues to falter and end up just a sports publisher. GOOD. That will effectively kill any further genre influence. Let dead ips rot

I mean, the EA executive who infamously talked about charging people for reloading their magazines managed to get on at Unity and helped tank that too. I'm not optimistic that the devs and executives who have fucked the gaming industry up won't just end up getting hired in enterprise solutions and ruining the software I use for work or something. HR departments eat this DEI shit up for hiring, and absolutely nothing has happened that will change that tendency.

Two of the writers, Coutney Woods and John Donbrow, that worked on Veilguard, and were let go, have already been hired to work on Ghosts of Yotei.

Can you imagine how that entry interview went?

Interviewer: "So, what previous experience do you have?"
Courtney and John: "We were writers for Dragon Age: Veilguard."
Interviewer: "Ah, okay. And why are you leaving Bioware?"
Courtney and John: "We were fired after the game we wrote failed to meet sales expectations."
Interviewer: "Sounds great. Can you start Monday?"

The number of games they were present for at Bioware probably played a part, but that's definitely more stinkers they've worked on than not.

Woods has Veilguard, Andromeda, Anthem, TOR, and Inquisition under her belt. I've never played Inquisition (just heard it was supremely mid) but I doubt that covers that colossal drudge of dogshit on her resume.

Meanwhile Dombrow at least has Mass effect 2 on his resume and a good chunk of Mass Effect 3 was actually really good.

Truly failing her way upward.

Mid is generous for Inquisition it's incredibly dull. Like a step above Starfield dull.

Interesting event we'll be getting for PoE 1.

"To start with we'll be running a one-month event that has some of our whacky ideas that never quite made it off the brainstorm board."

"What does Path of Exile 1 look like when the nineteen Ascendancy Classes you know and are familiar with are all of a sudden replaced by a different nineteen? What does Path of Exile 1 look like when you get to play a Witch and ascend to become a Harbinger? These are the questions our design team asked each other and in this event will provide you with some of our answers."

I'm curious if their reasoning for this is to see if these ideas actually work in practice, and they'll be reevaluating them. Definitely an interesting event/mini-league concept, though I wish it was happening for a better reason than to essentially placate the fans.

I'd rather play Skyrim than any Dragon Age past Origins. No, I'd eagerly play Skyrim over them

I like 2, while it has a lackluster story and they cut a lot of corners with shit like reusing dungeons it has my favorite companions of the series overall. Except for Fenris, but I always just sell him back into slavery.

It also has Felicia Day from back before I learned she was a retard.

The more AAA and giant corpo publishers die, the better. The top of the industry needs a hard reset.

Any Touhou players here?
I'm a big fan of the series and playing the game has helped me greatly in entering the flow state easily and lock in.
I mean if I was in the middle of a fuckton of projectiles from some ice fairy who cant do math I'd force myself to lock in tok

Hmm, I've bought some Touhou games on Steam, but I still need to really focus on them.

I've been playing this one for years already, but it's not a typical Touhou:

Dang dude you bought the hardest touhou game for a newbie, have fun learning.
That's actually my favourite game from the series. God tier music and it's super satisfying to play once you master the lunatic mode.

WRECKFEST 2, March 20th, 2025 early access release

Legally Mandated Demolition Derby is always a good time, but now I'm worried they're somehow going to mess it up! The gaming industry is fucked, where a sequel to a beloved game causes fans of said game to potentially worry about its quality! There have been so many cases in the past few years alone that it's now the default to be skeptical!

If it does, indeed, suck ass, there's always the first game to go back to and crash cars at high speeds. Surely, they won't de-list WRECKFEST due to licensing nonsense like so many of these other car/racing games, right?
