In addition to that, the game itself is already looking pretty bad. From the gameplay trailers we got, we had the sword model clipping through the characters in full view, floating doors, strange level geometry, incorrect/inaccurate Japanese architecture for the time period, rough combat animations (where the characters also clip through each other), and implementing a dumb as fuck system where you're forced to switch characters despite saying that the game wouldn't limit you in choosing a play style.

Mind you, all of this was discovered from their own trailers, the least likely place to find obvious bugs and problems considering it's supposed to be the best footage they can show of their own game.
Their last trailer for the game had the jankiest horse animation ever created sliding across the floor in the first 30 seconds. It's so bad, it's the most watched part of their trailer.

They even got caught using bots to fake engagement.

Total War games have had better horse animations than that and those are supposed to be queued up between hundreds of cohesive units with lesser detail by design

And Total War still has shit horse animations
wow

I think Asmongold is going to be right. He thought that once the game releases and everyone sees how shit it is, the Yasuke stuff isn't even going to be in the top 10 worst issues with the game.

The delay wasn't even from the all the other shit around it, by their own admittance, the game was really in a god-awful state and all the drama would have been the icing on the shit-cake. The delay probably won't help in the slightest, either.

A four month delay means basically nothing in modern game development. It's just so they don't have Outlaws and AC Shadows bomb immediately back to back.

The funniest bit is that the entire stuff with Yasuke is that they ended up there as a way of trying to appease every faction. They basically went through the hierarchy of crybabbies and landed on the most absolutely of classic westernism: be really racist to someone they don't think will care. Catch is, the Japanese absolutely do care and enough non-Japanese are familiar with the setting to know something is wrong.

That said, those choices come after a long chain of crippling mistakes. They also have some multi-player function that was to come later that'll be bundled now. Minus the fact they're launching it into what'll also be the Switch 2's launch window.

The "Day 1 patch" and the "fix it in 2 months" stuff was clearly too big. It's also possible they were going to have an issue like Star Wars: Outlaws where patches would kill saved games. Which is kind of an issue offering "early" access.

I think that's the primary reason, but the state of the game is probably such that they can't afford a slow launch and the "patch it 2 months later" issues. Word of mouth still REALLY matters to game sales. Launching clean makes you a lot more money.

Ubisoft learned that Japanese history is one of the most politicized things in Japan.

I'm glad to see Hakos Baelz playing a retro game from "back in the day," as she says:

Smash Bros' Masahiro Sakurai recently graduated. You think he might be joining Hololive?

If Endymion's videos are anything to go on, the 4 month delay is to shift development to another game coming out soon due to brain drain, and Shadows will actually be getting ANOTHER delay after the new year. He's had a lot of videos on the subject, but one thing he touched on was the OG game WAS supposed to have a Japanese warrior monk as the MC, but this game has been in development hell for 7 or so years being slightly worked on for a long time, but only ramping up since George Floyd when they decided to scrap the initial story they had and make it about Yasuke. Linking the first vid he did, but I can't remember which one touched on it specifically.

The new Airborne DLC for Gates of Hell: Ostfront came out a few days ago. It contains a US campaign with twelve missions.
TL;DR: It's a great singleplayer (and co-op) experience that's also the cheapest DLC yet.

So far, I've finished seven of the twelve missions and they've been great to play through. I went in blind, so I can't give a complete judgement on mission variety.

I like the return to a more cinematic mission presentation, which is something that had been lacking since the missions made after the initial release of the game. Some of the missions are straight up an episode from Band of Brothers. I noticed that there's more talk during the defensive phases where there's calling out specific threats such as tanks and such, which makes the missions feel more lively.

Some of the missions are also short for Gates of Hell standards, which usually takes between 1.5 and 2 hours on average to complete. Some of the missions only took a little over an hour for me to complete. As a result, I was able to complete three missions back-to-back during a mid-day and evening.

It's nice to see that the missions came polished this time around without obvious and sometimes game-breaking bugs the US missions in the Liberation DLC had at launch.

Gates of Hell: Airborne is a worthwhile DLC to pick up with a great singleplayer and co-op experience. It's also the cheapest DLC for Gates of Hell, so missing out on the current 20% launch discount isn't as big of a deal compared to the other DLC's.

There's also a sale going on for Gates of Hell: Ostfront and all the DLC's until October 31st, which is the opportunity to get them if you haven't got them yet.

That's a good one, I really enjoy that game. Here's Civvie11s old review too.

[Edit] Forgot to add, I always side with Demichev, because he makes the most sense.

What did they even release?
Nothing. Industry veterans got employed for an original multiplatform IP, but it's not even announced officially

Haven't watched the 25min video but yes, it was originally suppose to be about a Japanese warrior monk. The story was submitted to Ubisoft through by a company they hired to write the story and after the lead writer talked with Ubisoft's narrative leads throughout the whole process, they submitted it in 2014 and it was approved. It was only recently that they found out that it got thrown out in favor of Yasuke the black Samurai. The main character was suppose to start as a warrior named Taka, as Taka translates to Hawk and that follows the whole "eagle name" scheme. The primary conflict was suppose to be about the Sword of Eden. Your mentor, Hanzo Hattori, assassinates Oda Nobunaga and acquires the sword. As the brotherhood tries to get it out of Japan, the Jesuits (the Templars) intercept it and Hanzo is assassinated. Hideyoshi, who is not a Templar but working with the Jesuits, gets the sword and tries to conquer Korea. The invasion is initially successful because he has the sword but eventually Taka gets it back, which causes the Korean invasion to fall apart and Hideyoshi to go insane and massacres the Jesuits because he thinks they betrayed him.

Considering the people working on the game, I wouldn't be surprised if the rumor is true that they did a hard left turn in the narrative and swapped in Yasuke because of the Floyd riots. They unironically have a huge fat white bitch that worships BLM working as their lead writer on the game.

And then there's the fact that Kim Bellaire, the founder of Sweet Baby, is a former Ubisoft Montreal employee.
