Looks like MikeZ is getting his game back.

I complained about them taking away shit we'd paid for in a steam review and got banned from the entire Skull Girls steam community because I "violated the rules." Watching them waste a shit ton of money and alienate the entire fanbase (except for twitter fags who don't play games) is cathartic.

I use to feel regret for falling deep into the WoW MMO hole, which basically drew my attention for years and caused me to never experience a whole bunch of games. However now I feel relief knowing I never got into certain franchises so I get to watch other people die inside as their franchises get molested, like Final Fantasy.

That means you got to see Warcraft get molested like a Peace Corps worker with a chimp.

That is true but would you rather be part of 3 Holocausts or 7? I could have gotten into and built strong nostalgic attachments to a lot more games but instead I got 3 total that really sucked (Warcraft, Assassin's Creed, Arkham).

Arkham. Oof, I never got into the games, enjoyed watching them more. That's still a pretty bad holocaust though.

Oh yeah, the "Wow, Gotham Knights is awful" followed by the "Maybe I was too harsh on Gotham Knights".

Arkham Knight was a letdown (but boy did Gotham Knights and Suicide Rocksteady showed how far the depths could go) too, what was going on in that story? I didn't think Paul Dini leaving would hurt it so bad.

Paul Dini is one name you DO NOT want to lose. his one redeeming quality is he is a downright god tier writer when it comes to cartoons or comics.

Just a short history of his work. hes the guy who gave us Cyber Chuthulu in Transformers G1 (Dwellers in the deep) before Lovecraft was essentially a household name Remember Starwars Ewoks? Hes the guy who wrote the vast majority of the episodes where they actually have to deal with The Empire (essentially the only episodes of any interest) guy gave us Lolth in Dungeons and Dragons (the tv show)

and the big one. in batman the animated series he gave us Heart Of Ice essentially cementing Future origins of Mr Freeze for years to come

Paul Dini was only writer for the first 2 games so the games going bad i would put on Ian Bell who seems to be on most of them and i cant help but notice one of the main programmers shares his last name

As dogshit as Suicide Squad was at least it had a couple moments that made me laugh. Being on the receiving end of Batman's terrorizing of henchman was fucking great. Every moment of Gotham Knights was boring.

No saving either game when it came to gameplay though.

I found his writing in Batman White Knight quite droll.

it would of been better if 500 million people didn't beat him to it 20 years earlier.

It's really fascinating how much of a letdown Knight was. It was graphically beautiful, the driving of the Batmobile was pretty fun, and the combat/predator gameplay was as smooth as ever. However they ruined the Batmobile by giving it a tank mode, forcing you into a bunch of tank fights, and then having the Batmobile being an overused tool for puzzle-solving really made me hate it. Then they took one of the greatest strengths of City and Origins, the boss fights, and completely fucked that up.

For boss fights, City had Ra's al Ghul, Mr. Freeze, Solomun Grundy, and Clayface as all fun fights. Origins had Copperhead, Deathstroke, Bane, Firefly, and Deadshot. What did Knight have? Cloudburst tank (Batmobile), Deathstroke's tank (Batmobile and worse than Origins), Arkham Knight's Excavator (Batmobile), Firefly (Batmobile and worse than Origins), Riddler, Professor Pyg, Arkham Knight, Two-Face and the 2 not-Jokers. The worst part is that the non-Batmobile boss fights aren't even fun or interesting like Mr. Freeze in City or Deadshot in Origins. It doesn't help that the only non-Batmobile boss fights during the main story are Arkham Knight and the 2 non-Jokers as Firefly, Pyg, Riddler, and Two-Face are all side content.

Speaking of franchises being molested, the Wizardry gacha has launched on steam (as of a few days ago)!

"The what-", you may ask, but it's exactly as it sounds: it's a Wizardry live-service game that updates with new content + dungeons every few weeks/months, where you pull for your party members via gacha, made on a shoe-string budget of...look, calling it "jank" doesn't do it justice, it's absolutely no-money all the way down, filled to the brim with microtransactions, it is strictly for the sickos who somehow don't have enough Wizardry and Wizardry-adjacent video games the last several decades. See: Boomers, the Japanese people, Japanese Boomers.

Trouble is, after a few hours of playing it, I can see myself running dungeons as more content is updated. Fair warning, it is a shoddy PC port at a fixed resolution, nProtect GameGuard Anti-Cheat, can't change voices to Japanese, and a whole slew of new bugs that come with making a barebones port. If you are, indeed, one of those Wizardry sickos, or have an insatiable curiosity, check it out below and do not spend big money on the gacha because the prices + rates are equally atrocious. You'll be showered with free units and pulls by playing the game over a prolonged period of time through the various events, to my current understanding, so keep true to Kronii's words of wisdom: #NoFOMONoHomo

Instead of burning money, you could instead purchase any one of the other Wizardry (and Wizardry-like) games currently on steam, and possibly become a sicko yourself. Listing them below for easy access, and for the long-shot of getting Chuubas into yet another boomer game series/genre, with the rising popularity of Frieren, Delicious in Dungeon, Goblin Slayer, Solo Leveling, and the like:

Wizardry 6-7-8 is a trilogy where you can take your party through all three games, if they survive. The most dated of the recommendations, but they're classics for a reason!

This one's more anime-inspired, consider it Wizardry 1+, like most Japanese-inspired Wizardry products and successors. The sequel is currently trapped in Japan, and this didn't sell enough to warrant the continued localization (unless...?)

Here's the modern, 3D remake of the first Wizardry, running on top of the actual Wizardry 1. Everything to say about this game has already been said, really! This is where you can find the links to various game/anime franchises that came afterward, specifically on the Japanese creative side (they *really* love Wizardry).

This is the Wizardry title where you can run labyrinths/scenarios made by others, and they're making the effort to provide remastered versions of the other Wizardry Gaiden scenarios as well (with continued updates throughout this year). It was originally caught in a legal battle while the Wizardry license was in flux, hence the notice about Wizardry 1-5 on the store page (and they will take action against anyone making scenarios regarding Wizardry 1-5). I remember this specifically, because I was waiting for it to launch for months and months while the legal issues took place, and I hope this doesn't happen again with further Wizardry titles!

One of the many successors to Wizardry on the Japanese side of development, Elminage wears the inspiration on its sleeve proudly, but shouldn't be pursued unless you are already invested in this style of game:

And then there's Etrian Odyssey, the modernization of Wizardry, even though the latest entry in the series is MIA (it was announced years ago for the Nintendo Switch, and briefly resurfaced with Metaphor: ReFantazio). If you are already aware of Etrian Odyssey, then you are more likely to enjoy DRPGs such as Wizardry in the first place:

So what I'm getting at is, please do not spend exorbitant amounts of money on the gacha, when there are fully-fledged games you could buy instead.

City was the best "game as game" of the bunch, but I've always found myself drawn back more towards Origins. It felt a lot more like a Batman Game than "big Triple AAA game", though the map was probably a little big. Knight is a weird one. From a design perspective, I absolutely see why they brought in the Tank, and for the first hour or two it wasn't too much of an issue. But it really overstayed its utility, and quite a lot of the story got "we need bigger!" too much. For the Arkham games, smaller always worked better. And I'd forgotten about that stupid excavator fight.

Even since Asylum when they had you drive the Batmobile into Bane, people were begging for a playable Batmobile. If they didn't include the tank form, replaced the Batmobile fights with actual fights/bosses, and replaced like 10% of the Batmobile puzzles with some random other gadget puzzles, the game probably would been far better. The rest of the game is alright (except the lack of boss fights) despite the story being too drawn out, it's just that the Batmobile kept intruding on the rest of the game that it annoyed everyone. The Firefly fight was at least excusable because it was the Batmobile part and not a tank fight as you're rushing to catch him.

Storywise, there's just so much I find nonsensical or just uninspired.
What I liked: Scarecrow uniting the villains in one last ditch attempt to bring down Batman in a post-Joker Gotham. The main driving force behind the plot works in a Knightfall-esque sort of way, it makes sense that Joker would have always kept the villains divided because of how much of a singular threat and agent of chaos he was. Scarecrow works as the big bad on account of his thematic ties. He also doesn't go and recruit every villain under the sun or villains who feel like they would have zero stakes in the story (those being better left for side stories).

What I didn't like: Starting with what I hate most, Joker blood corrupting people. I fucking despise this. It's not the first or the last time, we've seen this thing. I cannot get over how contrived it feels nearly everytime. It's never heavily leaned into supernatural when it should be; the superscience that Joker's DNA could thoroughly corrupt another person into being Joker-like is just stupid. The best alternative has always been Batman Beyond's take of it being a superscience microchip that had Joker's thought patterns and memories.
Arkham Knight's identity. They come up with an interesting design for an anti-Batman among hundreds of anti-Batmen. Wasting it on Jason Todd, when they could have just made an original character or just use Red Hood from the get-go (or any of the other anti-Batmen like Wrath or Hush).
Alot of the side stories. They are just useless and don't fully utilize the antagonists of them (except for Mr. Freeze). They're just mostly dead-end plots that do nothing for the greater Arkham mythos. Hush was wasted, Blackfire was wasted, and I don't even know why the Ra's Al Ghul story existed.

As great of a villain as Joker is, I hate how every Arkham game always had to go back to him. I enjoyed the first two games and was really excited to play Origins based on the trailers and the fact that we were finally getting a different main villain, and one that wasn't as popular as many of his other more well-known ones with Black Mask. Figured they had a really good premise going with him and the others. So it was incredibly disappointing to learn that "PSYCHE! IT WAS THE JOKER ALL ALONG" before I ended up even buying it. Completely killed my interest, and while I do eventually plan on playing it when I get around to it, I still haven't to this day because of my disappointment, nor have I played Knight yet either.

The Batman franchise has one of the best cast of villains in comic book history, and yet Rocksteady continually had to default so much back to the Joker being behind things. Such wasted potential.
