I found out about the game like a year or two ago because New Vegas retards kept hyping this shit up as the new Skyrim killer because it's made by their beloved Obsidian (which is a hollowed out husk of a studio at this point)

eh Avalone is a semi known retard but Obsidian still makes decent stuff. Grounded might not be a bastion of gaming but it was a fun time when my friends and i sat down with Honey I Shrunk the Dumbasses.

...Does it? "Mediocre" is a charitable rating for Outer Worlds, so my expectations for Avowed were already pretty low even before realising that the game's gonna compete with DA:Veilguard on how progressive it is.

Stick of Truth was the last great thing out of Obsidian after New Vegas. Grounded is an ok coop experience. Pentiment is ok for an adventure game and it was pretty much a solo pet project by Josh Sawyer. PoE is boooooooooooring. Tyranny is so unbaked its unfunny. Outer Worlds is slop and proved Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky have lost the plot when it comes to developing games; it was also the beginning of Obsidian's new DIVERSE team. This is pretty much the same team on Avowed minus Boyarsky and Cain. The only talent left at Obsidian is Sawyer, and he is more or less gay middle management now. Alpha Protocol 2 under modern Obsidian would be a travesty that would make me consider blowing my brains across the wall.

I may still think Sean Murray is a bit of a fag but it's undeniable that No man's sky is the greatest underdog to success story for a game and he deserves it. If only more, *cough*, 'AAA' companies actually promised to fix their buggy unfinished games.

Outer Worlds is where Tim Cain realized the industry is beyond salvation after working literal retards that demanded to take 4 weeks to make a simple aggro table that he could write in ~40 mins but management wouldn't let him. He dipped out of the industry after that because he got to see first hand how many retards there are and how management buck breaks the actually worthwhile individuals with pointless bureaucracy that never ends.

If only more 'AAA' companies didn't over-promise, lie, and release buggy, unfinished games that take years to actually properly finish in the first place.

I mean, good on them for continuing to work on it and bring it to wherever it's at now, but as someone who never jumped on the NMS hype train, I'm less willing to forgive how much they lied leading up to the disastrous release of the game. I certainly wouldn't trust them on whatever their next new release will be.

I liked Pillars of Eternity, but I'm pretty sure you have to be so deep into the crpg niche that it counts as being on the spectrum to enjoy it, and they fumbled 2 hard. Tyranny was a fucking bait-and-switch though.

The most notable thing about Outer Worlds was the gaslighting surrounding it. I can hardly think of any other example where so many lied to themselves and everyone else that this desperately 5/10 game was actually a 10 just because the seethe surrounding Bethesda was at its peak and they wanted something to dunk on them with.

Yeah but it’s not like Obsidian was ever AAAnal. They have always been AA but nearly all the talent have been brain drained by DEI. I find it funny the supposed insider is claiming that Obsidian culture changed in 2018, I think the writing was on the wall well before that right after Stick of Truth.

It's not even just the DEI stuff or investors rushing them. It's the endless bureaucracy where games are being made by committee. It's no longer "the talented devs can carry the retards" because if the talented devs want to do something, it has to go and be approved by the retards before it can be implemented. Talented devs end up leaving out of frustration or just keep their heads down to keep collecting a paycheck.
