Shit just wasn't a carbon copy but infinitely worse version of the games.

I want to continue on this, the PC and PS2 games were different, completely different stories. Same with PS2 and 360 versions. Shit was honestly amazing, sure the quality wasn't the best, but I'll always have a soft spot for those late PS2 games because they had so much SOUL in them.

A lot of games like that were the product of limitation breeding creativity, same with handheld adaptations of console games. It wasn't possible to directly port the main game to the lesser systems, so developers had to find ways to recreate the "feel" of a game using the resources they had. They wouldn't always land well, but I'll always admire the work it takes and the considerations that have to be made in those situations.

In all seriousness, my take on the Switch is that it had great potential, but Nintendo stripped a lot of the soul they added through the Wii - Wii U era to make it purely functional and not stylish and nostalgic. I have several desires for a future Nintendo console, but really I still don't think the Switch is awful. I used it portably for a long time, particularly in cars/busses/trains/airplanes. It's perfectly useable handheld, but I don't disagree with Pippa that the constant arms race with consoles has ruined a lot of development potential.
