I don't know how true it is, but some users poking around in it found that it's actually stolen Chat GPT that was cloned by the Chinese. If that's the case it can't actually surpass GPT as it's reliant on stealing what GPT does, and has a high likelihood of being banned for IP theft.

I haven't dug through the white paper and wont, but I know they said they heavily used GPT outputs to train it. This is certainly not the death of Western AI dev, but if the slants can just spit out an open source copy for 5 million per iteration then they're still fucked.
