As someone who admittedly spends a fair amount of time in youtube shorts specifically, watching them only becomes viable with carefully managing your likes/dislikes or the ignore button to curate your own algo. Now most of mine is dashcam/bodycam footage, lawyer reacts, and comedy podcasts.

Pippa taking 10 years to start disliking clips while watching everything it fed her, while also presumably watching from an account she doesn't actually use for normal youtube watching its feeding the sloppiest of the slop it feeds to the lowest common denominator.

Okay yeah that's a reasonable explanation.
I still don't know of a situation where i'd rather watch a 1-minute video over a 10-minute one on the same topic, but if the algo can at least be managed into not being whatever the fuck this is, that already makes it much better.
