The new AllyX is really good apparently but I can't imagine using one of these windows handhelds without the trackpads cause there's a lot of times you need to use Windows for tinkering with stuff and using a joystick in windows or the tiny touchscreen is really clunky, unless you plan on using it docked most the time.

There's also a bunch of new ones coming out lately, MSI and Lenovo are also about to release new iterations of their handhelds as well (and have shown some improvements on their previous ones) and they're all in a similar price range.

Even if it's not as powerful as the rest Steamdeck is still king to me.

Didn't fully read or look into this yet, but seems interesting. I'd def consider this if it doesn't sacrifice any hardware features.

Late but I want to point out that the Steam Deck on its' own is a fucking emulation powerhouse and I love it dearly. I was able to emulate PS3-Exclusive MGS4 on it (an original 512gb non-Oled) and played it to completion with only one crash and manageable audio issues (due to the CPU not quite being powerful enough for perfect audio emulation in crowded gameplay areas, the cutscenes were literally perfectly fine though). For shits and giggles I've also tried a couple Xbox360 games with Xenia i tried sonic unleashed because that was the first game to come to mind that makes the 360 come to a crawl at certain bits, and MGS Peacewalker because I couldn't be bothered dealing with shitty PSP camera controls and from my testing they work pretty flawlessly too - I've even seen footage of fucking Bloodborne running on it via the new PS4 emulator. Absolute unit. Would recommend to anyone, even non-Oled.

It is known that I am a Valve fanboy but it is, in fact, an objective banger. Been using mine for a year and few months now. The other competitor handhelds on the market may outperform it slightly, but Valve are pretty good with their updates and maintaining shit to a quality standard. I hear they're also working on an eventual successor to the Steam Deck to come out in the next ~couple years, which will be interesting.

Civ addiction never goes away, it just goes temporarily into remission and can flare up again at any time. Sad.

I love my Steam Deck, I use it as a second computer because my main one is a shitbox. It is almost always docked to a monitor, KB & Mouse. I very rarely ever use it portably. I have no real hot take on this debate.

i like my gpd win mini 2024 which came with chinese windows that i put in my accounts in and then promptly killed itself with a windows update.

fresh install and its fine, i like the clamshell design.
