there are definitely better ways than to ban someone critizing a scummy charity, mostly because the whole charity shit is just virtue signalling garbage in 90% of cases anyways. It's the easiest way to farm sympathy points, especially when you're rich as fuck already. You have to do literally nothing on top of just streaming as before and then rake in the rewards for skipping out on some pocket cash.
He could have just said "oops mb shit charity, we'll get a better one next time" and nobody would have batted an eye.

its kind of crazy if you talk with old people, it was common in the 60's/70's. they'd get drunk and then drive home

there was a lot less traffic back then, so if you drove home drunk during the night, worst case you just ended up driving off the road into a ditch. Different story today, where they end up getting other people killed much more frequently. Young people have no excuse to be mouthbreathers and drive drunk.
