In fairness that's probably mostly a cost-cutting thing, but audiences are becoming more receptive to it because stilted, grammatically awkward translations are still preferable to whatever political diatribes or "topical" memes the overweight women who work in localisation want to shoehorn in.

The perk is that machine learning will improve over time, while stubborn human workers who hate their audience will continue to butcher the work because they're bitter.

I watch subs because every dub I've heard (both En and Ru) made me die of cringe

Seriously tho, idk if it's just how anime is, but the admittedly few I've watched, dubs have been unbearable. I'd much prefer to hear Japanese gibberish I don't understand than suffer an average dub.

Probably the only good dub I've heard was Edgerunners, because it was clearly intended as the primary VO

It's probably both, companies constantly cut out useless middle men, just look how Tokyo Pop got purged. This is something the west has failed at in media, they're too slow at looking at a sector and purging it when it becomes a cancer.
