Vtubers owning their own identities wouldn't make the industry much better. IP management is a minefield that even very experienced vtubers run afoul of frequently. The smart ones would benefit, but it would leave a lot of less well-educated and business-savvy vtubers in positions of responsibility they aren't prepared for. It's a bit like saying that instead of letting the government pay you in fiat currency, you should be given gold or silver so you truly own your wealth. Some people would massively benefit, but most would just squander the opportunity and get taken advantage of in various ways.
I'm in favour of a talent getting ownership of their IP after they've made the company profit equal to their initial investment costs plus a mutually agreed-upon percentage. Companies shouldn't be able to fuck with a talent arbitrarily, but neither should the talent have the power to destroy the company in a fit of menhera pique. Checks & balances.
