There are too many to fit in a single post but i will say what i think the most important ones in my opinion:
1- They debuted too late: By June of 2019 when Miyabi (the first Holostars ever) debuted there where already dozens of established male vtubers to compete for an audience (Kuzuha,Kanae,Chaika,Kenmoya,Gilzaren III,Yashiro,Kanda,Maimoto,Banderas, etc.) so they already started pretty bad
2- They had no budget: Kinda Relates to the previous point , the stars where a personal Project created by Yagoo so he had to be their manager until it was handed over to Daidou Shinove , this lack of support in their debut also made things hard
It also feels like they are now in a weird spot where when they are able to scrape together money for a cool project, it doesn't do well enough to justify more money being allocated to them.

Okay I'm going to get one of those Narcos submarines, I'm gonna make money.
I'll be your chewbacca. We'll dive and smuggle vtuber merchandise around in the Pacific. They won't be able to catch us.

I couldn't give less of a Bae's ass about hololive's latest mandated meinkra reboot, however watching the IDs sperg out and build magnificent things is delightful.

Can someone explain to me why the US put tariffs over products from other countries?

Chyna bad. Holo merch is made in Chyna. Donald Trump don't trust Chyna.

(the idea is to punish foreign goods so that we stop buying foreign goods and instead start manufacturing in the US (leading to losses of sales for foreign nations and more jobs at home). While this could be effective for things like steel and computer chips and cars, I highly doubt Holo is going to move their plushie and acrylic stand manufacturing to America, so we are screwed.)

If I only posted about things I cared about, I'd only ever post about IRyS, Mumei, Nimi, and the rest of Promise (which I often do for vast periods of time).
And Nerissa. You care deeply about Nerissa.

Mostly about her graduation, but that's still caring.

If you take HolostarsJP as a baseline, they want domestic fans who will attend their concerts and events because this is the easiest metric to show to sponsors, and sponsorship in turn are the highest profit for the talents involved as you literally do nothing but get a paycheck from cafe/shop/merch collaboration. Being the global branch somewhat screws them over in this regard, it's much harder to accumulate a critical mass of fans at a single event that would look good to show to sponsors. And doing lots of small events in many places will drain the talents and make them never want to do it again. And unlike girls they can't even justify it as "I am just going to meet up with a bunch of other vtubers and we will have fun in between" since the amount of people they can hang out with is also drastically smaller
It's just not working as an idea unless they somehow find an untapped market or cater to the same cancer fujoshis as NijiEN
Edit: "Cool projects" are also usually just a money sink, I don't think anyone ever mentioned that they make money from them. If anything they tend to get cancelled a couple years later because it's too much work and too little return

At its core, they are an attempt to get out of the over-reliance on China for manufactured goods that the world has gotten itself into.

Edit: Grammar.

You don't know. What if they actually start plush and keychain manufacturing locally now that they're having an office in California Oblast. The equipment and logistics required for it are already in place. I would've proposed Mexico, but with tariffs I assume even a ragdoll will scale up in wholesale production.

Adjacently, this is why I'm worried about Calli's concert, is it sold out yet? I think she has outright said that Cover will be looking at how successful it is when they consider overseas solo lives for other girls. I just find it hard to believe that there are not thousands of fans who would be willing to travel for this. Like, I don't consider myself some sort of 'super crazy fan', but for an IRyS solo live ticket I would kill anyone they asked me to, and there's not enough people willing to just spend money for this?

What's causing the stoppages for random cheap goods is that Trump abolished de minimis for Chinese goods, which basically allowed products that are less than $800 in value to skip paying customs duties and taxes. This basically facilitated dropshippers from China (since that's where most vtuber tat is made and shipped from) since they don't need someone stateside to fill out the paperwork and pay the duties - the issue is that the U.S. has restrictions against importing goods made with slave labor, and without checking the goods it was allowing places like Temu and Shein to sell goods made by Uyghur slaves in Xinjiang. With that gone, the person receiving the goods will experience a delay or outright cancellation since the paperwork has to be filled out and the duty paid; in many cases the shipping company has to act as the importation agent, hence why some (like the USPS) have basically canceled orders from China.

Trump said he would derive more government revenue from tariffs and he's doing as he said.

*deliberately wait for the VG anni merch periods to overlap so I can get them all in one swoop*
*tariff exemption lifted*

I am going to shout racial slurs. Kindly excuse me.
Ok, so stuff that has already been ordered we'll have to pay when it reaches the US, but anything we order from now on, the tariff cost is paid when we order, correct?
Dangit, I was hoping that it was all going to be upon entering the US rather than at the time of payment, since with vtuber merch that would give ~6 months to get this changed, as well as spread out the cost over time (China won't cave nearly as easily as Canada or Mexico, so even expecting it to get better in ~6 months is probably 🌈).

You'll be fine, brownskin. The tarrifs don't affect SEAmongers.
I am white, I am American. I am legitimately annoyed with the price hikes because birthday merch usually a months worth of income anyways. It is going to be even more expensive now due to the trade war stuff. I support the trade war because I am a proud A1 patriot, but it's still annoying.
