Been seeing this crop up on Twiddur throughout the day. I think the response from YT support was just a form letter and not related to the ad itself or the use or not of ad blockers - if anything, if this kind of thing were to become normalized, one could imagine it'd only cause more people to want to use blockers, so I'm betting Google is going to shut this down ASAP and set a max limit on the length of videos that can be unskippable (I'm surprised they didn't have one already).

It definitely feels like an oversight, that's letting people run their video essays etc. as advertisements to farm watch time from Smart TV users who just leave YouTube on in the background while they do other shit. It's just that having their comment on the story being an automated FAQ response about an unrelated issue tells me they have no intention to actually fix it.

Youtube rep actually came out and denied that it is a thing. The guy used some really shitty adblock. Then send an email to youtube and get an automated message and kick up a fuss about it.

What really happened is that, let's say OP used an adblock called "AdblockOriginPlusGalaxyUltra", AdblockOrigin+GalaxyS51ultra failed to block the ad, but actually managed to block the "skip ads" button since it is an external pop-up. So now OP is stuck without the ability to skip it. Youtube didn't punish people for using adblock. People punish themselves for using shitty adblock.

Like this guy who punished himself for buying a macbook and ran into the same issue. With some really weird blue "skipping ads..." pop-up in the bottem left that I'm 100% sure is not from ublock. Edit: actually Ublock doesn't even work with safari lulmao. Imagine being an apple sheep.

Just stick with ublock until manifestv3 actually do something (it has been like a year now and it hasn't done shit) and you will be fine. And don't ever buy a mac.

Btw I actually started paying premium now, it's dirt cheap in here (like $4 a month) and it actually pays your creator when you watch a stream/video with premium. You can probs get it for cheap if you want to. It doesn't require faking IP or any of that jazz, some indian guy will add you to their Google family, buy the family pack (along with 5 other customers) and get you 1 year premium for like 20 bucks. That's it. Just need to find them, probs they are all over facebook market place or something.
