Japanese management didn't want EN to grow in case it meant they had to learn English and interact with foreigners / go abroad for meetings? That's the only way I can make it even halfway make any sense.
Been seeing this crop up on Twiddur throughout the day. I think the response from YT support was just a form letter and not related to the ad itself or the use or not of ad blockers - if anything, if this kind of thing were to become normalized, one could imagine it'd only cause more people to want to use blockers, so I'm betting Google is going to shut this down ASAP and set a max limit on the length of videos that can be unskippable (I'm surprised they didn't have one already).
