The real reason why Pokemon is popular and people will eat it up is because there's not much to play on the switch and it's a good time waster, basically justifying their handheld purchase. If people bought a switch they will play pokemon whether it's good or not.
Same reason why people play gacha games for years, it fits into the mobile device, a good time waster despite none of them being actually good.
