Why do people on twitter put slashes in artist mentions now? I've seen this a lot recently
Probably because if you don't then the person in question gets notified for every person who likes the post or any reply to the post and it's just really really annoying. I have someone who follows me that keeps @ing me in certain posts and it gets kinda tiresome to see an excessive wall of notifications for something random and that's only if one person does it, imagine if 10 or more people at a time do it.
tl;dr Obviously the poster wants to credit the twitter account of the artist, but they don't wanna notification bomb them and be a bother.
Also, I'm not sure if this fan game's been mentioned before, but it's pretty fun.
Pretty much what superduper said. You want to post something but you don't really want to ping the creator/source of the post so you put a slash so that the creator/source/owner/etc can still find it via ego-searching (searching it yourself) for whatever reason (don't want to bother them, in fear of causing bunch of notifications on their feed, etc)
It's also useful if you want to share something but don't want to ping the person you talk about in your post, like say, a post highlighting Rie being dum-dum on stream but you don't want her to see you saying it like that. Bam, just slash on her username. Ez.
Sometimes some people take it to the next level and actually hide it via l33t 5p3ak or removing vowels (example: Hana Macchia > hnmch, Momozusu Nene > mmzs nn, etc) in order to lessen the possibility of someone to discover the post you make. This is mostly related to rrat-posting or posts involving dramas that they don't want the talent being talked about to see and probably ruin their day or whatever.
It was a theory a few people on /vt/ were tossing around for a while very early on when they discovered Shiori's PL which was mainly just based on thin air in hindsight (and probably just made to stir the pot for the sake of stirring the pot). In any case for the most part it's been completely disproven but when I get loopy at like 3AM I start to get rratty and things like that make more sense in my broken brain.
This reminds me, it's always funny to search "P*ppa" on twitter and find vermintide and snowflakes getting ass mad at her for existing on their timeline. For some reason, they really want to post hate about Pippa but simultaneously don't want anyone to see it. You have to filter out the islamic posts and other junk, but you can find a fair amount of Pippa hate sperging this way.
Vtweeters will post on Twitter all day about how to be successful and how successful streamers are doing everything wrong but they don't even know how to find the record button.
