and there is a new wave of vtubing companies in japan that treats vtubers as recycled waste and they have millions of dollars/conglomerate funding like bond/iriam/etc. Each of these currently has like 1000 vtubers in their "non"-payroll.

If you believe their financial results they are making good money. I personally don't trust capitalist self-reports, but somewhere in the back of my head fear that they are actually telling the truth, that they are making sustainable money and they are here to fuck over everything forever.

Hololive may not lose to them. But thousands of unsuspecting vtubers will go quietly into the night, never making livable wage while being abused by them.

Corpos and talents are actually equal under the current arrangement. The corpo has a vested interest in keeping the talent with their company to continue monetarily benefitting from the IP. If that talent leaves, the IP is no longer usable and they lose the time and effort spent advertising the corpo. It actually works that the talent has to maintain anonymity.

I'm not sure what happens in an environment where corpos are advertising actual people and those people can leave while benefitting so easily from all the advertising and resources of the old corpo. Do talents just get saddled with onerous contracts that give them huge amounts of debt should they quit instead, like how they do with Korean idol industry? I really doubt that removing this anonymity would be better for anyone involved.

Some people manage to leverage their experience despite not being credited, sure, especially if they're changing jobs within the vtuber industry. Doesn't mean it doesn't make things harder. And plenty of extremely talented vtubers from defunct companies do struggle to find employment.

Say you don’t watch Airi without saying it, she can’t leave her situation due to some circumstance (VISA sponsorship, maybe expensive healthcare needs for her autistic brother, we don’t know the exact details) and it isn’t “misery porn” as you described previously. What is your point about anonymity? That they shouldn’t have it at all or that 2.5D is the future? I’m not a twitch watcher but there was a point brought up by pokimane that she pays 5 figures A MONTH just to protect herself from schizos, and sure she’s an outlier because she’s one of the most popular streamers, but look at Camila who had a stalker show up to her house.

Vtubing is just a medium to allow people to express themselves without needing to be put on a pedestal/shunned for how they look irl, just if your personality and model can appeal to people.

I honestly doubt the anonymity or general keyfaybe actually stops talent from advertising who or what they were to people who are slightly more inclined to keep private info like other employers
its possible, but i somewhat doubt there are clauses or ways to disallow you to say you were voicing Ching-Chang McPrettymelt for 3 years and earned 3 billion yen in akasupa total when you change careers or bounce to other agencies

Revealing identities would benefit corpos MORE imo, we all saw how jewdol went around screaming to the high heavens about who their talents used to be as a marketing ploy.

I would loooooove for all agencies to just poach talent from other corps and the only selling point to be that "they're already famous! And you already like them! Give us your wallet!"

Wouldn't it be fucking AMAZING if all corpos were like vshojo and they just traded the same 200 popular people around?! What a wonderful vision of the future!

You don't even need to do that, if you are a recruiter and you can't be bothered to check the usual sites for where this random indie, who is somehow followed by half of your company, has been working before it's a you problem

She may act a certain way on stream, but Dizzy has proven multiple times that she really does go above and beyond and cares a lot for the others. Obviously why all of them always have nice things to say about her.
