On the Respawn layoffs, apparently Titanfall 3 was a lot further than people thought?

As much as I want to joke about USAID funding being shut off, I don't think that's actually what is killing the current AAA market. They're all financed, and it's pretty clear that somewhere back in 2024 the combination of increased Debt Costs and better information on ROI clearly shows most of these projects aren't worth it. It might be an internal industry report, but something clearly hit last year that's caused all of this.

lmao

Could have easily been a Titanflop.
They must have saw Marathon getting a completely awful reception and decided "nah, let's just cancel the game and get the tax write-off".

Reminder that Respawn also cancelled a Dark Forces-style FPS too. This leaves the third Jedi game as their only announced game in the pipeline.

Yeah, the game they went immediately to developing after releasing the second game before fixing all the performance issues with the second game.

Still shite on PC?
I haven't played it since like 3 months after it came out but I distinctly recall them saying "we're not going to make any more patches for performance, we're moving on to the third game" while there was still distinct issues. From what I've read based on people responding to the recent Respawn tweet, the game's performance is still fucked on PC.

Do companies really think they can get the battle royale spark again with extract games? The tarkov Yamanbas are not going to stop playing their ruskie slop in exchange for FOTMs every company will try to shit out

Every single executive and entrepreneur has it drilled into their skull repeatedly that there is no such thing as a monopoly if one thing is even mildly successful a competing product especially one that something distinct to offer can also exist in the same market.

what they fail to understand is that games don't work like this Marvel Rivals wasn't a success because people were suddenly clamoring for hero shooters in most other situations it would be passed over as above average slop

but the repeated failures from people who like that genre along with your best alternative's being Blizzard's garbage or the decade old (but still good) TF2 along with the jumping ship from overwatch gave it enough to get it's foot in the door so to speak and the quality of the game did the rest.

There are roughly 2 types of gamers. People who play the FOTM and move on like herds and people who will stick with a game longer term (and those types of people can be split up even further) people playing Tarkov will NEVER EVER switch games. there is no market transference there even less then normal

Because most people might have maybe 2-4 main games they will actively play at once and 1 or 2 that they dabble in long-term.

to use me as an example I'm Currently playing the Arkham Trilogy but I also play Warframe on and off. Give me a month ill probably be playing some cheaper indie game and still dabbling in Warframe while also dabbling in more Pokémon Fangames since those are always fun and Emerald Rogue just got a update.
