Anyone been playing unicorn overlord? How you been liking it? Think it came out yesterday
not got my hands on the full thing yet but the generous demo was a really good intro (and i will be buying it)

It's pretty excellent I was surprised that it plays like an auto battler but it does work in this case.

the over world game play is mostly managing your squads there is little to no city management beyond putting someone up to guard the place and repairing it with resources

squad managment is where all the fun. For example the basic caster attack is a fireball that does extra damage to burning enemies archers get a fire bow early on so having the archer set his priorities so that they target enemies i want melted while also prioritizing scouts and flyers was a good chunk of time.

now apply those interactions with up to a squad of 6 units interacting. it get's pretty chaotic and thats just the first area i can't imagine what it will look like when i get 20 different optionsof skills and equipment for each character.

if your into that stuff it's a great game and worth your time.

Also can confirm the food porn is in there

Story Choices do seem to determine who will join you at least and some of the rewards you get for telling recruit able characters to fuck off do make it tempting sometimes. (example one of the archers will give you a hefty number of collectible items which you need to recruit another character and also use her shop which is full of amazing gear for where you are in the game) you get enough regardless but getting her early and having earlier access to some of the more expensive items makes it very tempting.

battles are fun so far i was reaching the point where new mechanics were being added like shrines which you can use to buff your troops for a limited time.
Everyone wants their own Stardew Valley,
The game looks like shit but I don't see how it's trying to be stardew valley looks more like Magika without the arcade fun of crafting your own spells. Also seriously stop naming your witches Luna it's lazy.
This got way more autistic then i'd like so brace yourself for a bit of a text wall.

Alright I'm both going to explain what Balatro is, how to play it and give a mini review because this game is like crack cocaine for right type of person.

Balatro is a card based deck construction rouge-like where the objective is to score the highest amount of "Score" each hand. Also Depending on how cucked of a country you live in it might be banned/restricted on the console store fronts so watch out.
Each run is split up into 8 antes increasing in difficulty with each ante being split into three blinds, small blind which has the lowest score requirement and gives out the least money, big blind which has the middle amount of score requirement and money payout and boss blind which both has the largest score requirement but also has some negative effect applied to you such as disabling cards of a type of suit(the symbols on the cards). With both the small and big blinds you can skip them to get a tag witch does something immediately but you don't get any money from the blind and you do not get to visit the store.

Score has two aspects that make it up being chip value and multiplier which are both influenced in a few ways with the main ways being. The individual cards and the effects on that card played, the type of poker hand played, and the effects of the jokers.

Each card has a base chip amount equal to its number (face cards are all 10 aces are 11) that is added to the chip part of the scoring, cards can have effects put on them mostly by tarot cards that you can buy from the store. these effects include adding 30 chips to the value of the card, making the card add 4 multiplier when scored and if the card is held in hand when you beat the blind adding 3 money to you to name a few.

When playing the cards only cards that "score" do there effects like adding the base chip value and any additional effects. Only 5 cards may be played at a time and in order to make hands you have a number of discards (3 at base) where you can toss upto 5 cards to draw equal to the number of cards discarded this way.Cards are only scored if they are apart of a poker hand. Each poker hand has a base amount of chips and multi associated with them that typically corresponds to how hard the hand is to make, so for example a pair which is any two cards that are the same face value (so two 9s for example) has a base value of 10 chips X 2 Multi while a full house which is a pair and a three of a kind has a value of 40 chips X 4 multi. The base values can be upgraded with planet cards which boost both values, Planet cards are mostly found in the shop.

Jokers are kinda like relics in other rouge-likes with the main difference being that in general you can only have 5 at max, jokers can completely change how you play , There is far too many to explain the full bounds of what they do but in general most jokers fall into one of 4 categories +chip jokers, +multi jokers, *Multi jokers, and utility jokes. +chip jokers add chips to the score and can either be unconditional, conditional base that require meeting a requirement in a scored hand like having a pair in it to activate, and scaling chip jokers where you can do things to increase the amount of chips they add for the rest of the run. + multi jokers are mostly the same except they add to the multi score instead of the chip score. * multi jokers when they activate * the value of the multi you currently have and are typically the strongest jokers that enable the largest scaling an example would be "The Duo" which doubles the multi if the played hand has a pair. Utility jokers can do a massive range of things from creating planet and tarot cards, making the shop better for you, adding money and making poker hands easier to make, an example of one that makes hands easier to make is the blurred joker which makes it so that both of the black suits are counted as each other and each of the red suits are counted as each other which makes flushes much easier.

After each completed blind you access the shop where you can buy things to improve the deck, here you can buy jokers, tarot cards, planets and vouchers to improve your deck. Tarot cards in addition to adding effects to your cards can give you money or be used to alter your deck to make harder to make hands easy to create by doing things like removing cards or changing the suit. Vouchers are permanent buffs that typical either make the store better, make money growth better or add to your hand size, number of hands you can play ore number of discards you get.
TLDR version 8.5/10 highly highly recommend if you like rouge-likes, card games and especially if you like the combination it might be early but this game is comparable to Slay the Spire for me.

Positives
  • Sizeable amount of depth that means runs are often different
  • Fairly quick time for runs especially when compared to sts which can take awhile
  • Difficulty is mostly great and even has unique strategies that can only be done on higher difficulties, this point does come with a minor asterisk attached.
  • This game does endless the best out of any rouge-like I've played so far, generally endless in most rouge-likes is when your kinda attached to a build and want to jerk with it for a bit longer but in this game because of how the required score scaling occurs in endless runs you almost need to completely break the game to succeed. ( for example the gap between ante 7 boss blind and ante 8 boss blind is blind is around 70,000 to 100,000 while going from ante 9 to ante 10 is 220,000 to 1,120,000 and that's the smallest scaling of endless.
  • Every Stake think ascension level in sts feels like a new challenge and they really isn't and nothing difficulty changes like in sts
  • Making big numbers makes my brain happy
  • Pretty cheap at only 15usd
Negatives
  • Difficulty at really high stakes can be quite rng heavy at the early antes with some runs feeling like they are doomed from the start.
  • While i wouldn't call the game ugly like i would sts if your just looking for something super interesting it might bore you as while the presentation is snappy and clean there is a limit to how exciting you can make cards look.
  • If your not big into cards games it might be hard to get into
@superduper i know you have talked about similar games i really recommend this to you.
ive been wanting to say this but theres another game out there Poker Quest that im just throwing out a recommendation for it's less addictive then Balatro is but also revolves around rouge lite mechanics and poker hands. (for example to swing your shitty sword get a pair)
I just wish Final Fantasy went back to turn-based combat, really

I'm not exactly a fan of turn-based RPGs becoming action RPGs
in general i agree with you but i think FF7R is basically the poster child of how to do it right

since it's not actually an action rpg it's using a very much upgraded version of the ATB system FF7 always used

better to think of it as the turns taking a second or two vs the 10 or 20 seconds it used to spells and specials are sitll on the guage even.
do you hate water as much as the average chuuba? you should! do your part in the war against over-hydration NOW:

What could possibly be as much of a menace as water? It turns out, the answer is particles, to which you must eradicate at all costs:

Now, what happens if both particles and fluid combined into a single menace? This developer's upcoming title is poised to shed light on such a horrifying prospect:

all of these titles have incredible modding support, community created maps for decades, you're not going to run out of things to do any time soon.

great series and if your not convinced they used to be flash games and you can load them up on most browsers if you want a demo (the steam versions are way better tho)

The TF2 voice actors appear to be going a bit stir crazy with no major updates for 7 years too...
:whatastory:

fucking hell TF2 is the largest black mark on valve can you stop being weird about games for maybe a month and fix the bot problem and finish the promised comic and update.
Anyone got experience with Battletech? is that any good? Been on my radar for years, but haven't pulled the trigger yet. It's 10 bucks right now base game.

if you get BattleTech, you're going to want the DLC + RogueTech mod, so be sure to look into that to see if you're interested. no sequel because Microsoft owns the rights to BATTLETECH, and Paradox doesn't want to have less of a profit margin (alleged) if they make it. there's also a lot of [CURRENT YEAR] nonsense the developers put in the game, and derided people through the development and release cycle if they didn't like it, that's another dive and a half into the unending culture war if you need to kill a few dozen hours looking it up.

on the FPS side of the spectrum, MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries finally released it's last DLC (allegedly) before it moves onto the Clans game, so the modders can finally work from a stable build - similar situation where the modders make the game worth purchasing/playing, do not underestimate the amount of content they add:

do not play rougetech unless you know the hell your actually doing or like brickwalls other then that the game is excellent for the most part and the modders are warhammer level of autistic meaning excellent attention to detail and a variety of content.

if you want to actually get into the setting though can I recommend embarrassing some clanners?

Got nostalgic about Destiny 1 randomly. So many memories coming back from watching this video, haven't seen it in years. As much as Year 1 had it's issues, I loved every second I put into that game thanks to having a dedicated friend group for it. It's been nearly 6 years since I've touched anything to do with Destiny, and I think I'll keep it that way. Fuck do I miss carrying new people in raids though. Or just soloing Crota's End back in the day... Still remember I willingly skipped buying Gjallarhorn from Xur like week 2 of the game because and I quote: "I have SUROS Regime, when will I ever use an Exotic rocket launcher?" I fucking ate those words HARD. Didn't get it to drop until months later.
Good times...

edit: I just remembered the Trials of Osiris! Oh maaaan those were the days, getting to The Lighthouse within the first few hours it was in the game was such a cool experience. I remember just walking around with my friends trying to find little secrets in it for like half an hour. God I miss those days.

My package with Unicorn Overlord is finally in my state, so hopefully I'll get it this week. When I'll get a chance to play it though, I'm not sure.

I'm looking to finally upgrade my PC (unchanged from 2018 besides a NVME) So being a cheapskate I decided to check our local second-hand sites and what do I see? Seems the Bitcoin miners have finally given up and are selling their rigs piecemeal, and who wouldn't trust their PC with such wonderful marvels of Red China such as these PSU's;

WHAT ARE YOU BUYING?
So far, I recently bought another citybuilder/business sim:

I've only put a few hours in so far but it seems interestingly enough. Definitely feels like one of those "good for the sale price, shit at full price" games though.
WHAT ARE YOU RECOMMENDING??
Dragon's Dogma is at its historic low

I'd highly advise anyone on the fence about DD2 to check out DD1 beforehand. I've seen a lot of people get hyped for DD2 but a lot of them are not prepared for the obtuse and old game design. People will be surprised to find some things like "dodge rolls", which have become ubiquitous with the genre since the onset of Souls faggotry, are missing. All the coverage I've seen for DD2 shows that the archaic RPG design choices like "this boss can only be hurt by magic" are still going to be around with DD2 and people are going to be in for a shock when their 4 man goon squad of fighters gets molested by a ghost that's immune to physical damage.

sad to hear his in universe editor is made up and not based on someone real. Truly the saddest part of the video.

Yeah this is pretty depressing 3D realms return had alot of promise and even a few high points hopfully the universe rights it's self and we get a somehow return to form. I'm still thankful to Embracer for pouring a shit ton of cash into the acquisition of game ip's and the return of a few (Darksiders and De Blob off the top of my head) but yeah their bumblefucking was clearly interfering with their studios hope those affected recover and Embracer does the smart thing and loans out those IP's to capable studios.

Since Nu3DR is under Saber, and Saber isn't under Embracer's umbrella anymore, who knows what the future holds?

It might just be my own bad luck but I've had two of these:

And on both of them the scrollwheel has lost it's grip and basically doesn't work anymore. I haven;t even been using it for heavy gaming, just my job.

I'm currently using:

Which is my backup mouse. (I have also ordered a new backup mouse):

Last time I bought a obvious Chinese PSU for cheap, it blew up.
Not "stopped working" blew up but "made a popping noise and started smoking" blew up.
Turns out the Watt rating on the label/box was much higher than the actual unit.

That's rough man, I'd rather rummage through E-waste, and frankensteining a triple 450W PSU Chain rather than put any of those tesla bombs masquerading as PSU's, how'd you end up using one?
The only Made for Chinese in China PSU brand I have any trust in is "Great Wall" however , hilariously enough The Chinese know this so they bootleg that brand.

I was young, dumb, short on money, and thought a PSU was a PSU. I needed something bigger to run a hand-me-down but still newer graphics card I got from a friend. No way this $20 "new" one off ebay was going to be a sham right?

Producer so if she wants anything fixed/changed she will have to fight for it/threaten with whatever power she has.

most of the good games shes on has her as creative director or writer which to me sounds like direct input over the writing and worldbuilding.

She's the president of the development studio and is the reason it exists, it's a division of Skydance but I think she'll have enough of a say to actually get what she wants.
