FF7 Rebirth sales have dropped another 32% this week, down from
7,121 units to
4,840 units, for a total of
310,596 units. They're still 25,431 units away from passing
FF16's first week of sales of
336,027. As the game released on February 29th, two month mark is 4 weeks away with the 4/22/24-4/28/24. They would need to sell 6,357 units for the next 4 weeks, which is a 31% increase from what their current weekly sales is. It is getting outsold by Splatoon 3 (a game that came out 2 years ago) and Animal Crossing (which came out 4 years ago). The sales for those 2 games are basically a measurement for Japan's birth rate at this point and FF7 Rebirth is falling below them.
Meanwhile
Dragon's Dogma 2 and
Rise of the Ronin both came out on the same day last week with
DD2 having a higher week 1 sales of
68,592 to
RoR's
64,646. However for the past week,
DD2 saw a significantly higher drop in week 2 sales with
9,172 units to
RoR's
20,139 units.
Oh, and the
Princess Peach game is still beating everything for the second week in a row with
27,258 units for a total of
104,820 units. And yes, that means
Peach,
DD2, and
RoR all released during the same week and Peach has been crushing both of them.
The PS2 holds the record for 155 million units sold in its lifetime and the Switch has a lifetime record of 139.36 million units as of December 31st, 2023. To close that 15,640,000 unit gap during this year, the Switch will need to sell ~300k units per week for 2024. This Switch has been selling around 60k units in only Japan each week. Considering worldwide sales likely covers that 240k unit gap and there's likely going to be a few months in 2025 before the Switch 2/Super Switch comes out, the Switch is looking like it's going to break the record. That's even ignoring that they'll likely still sell Switch consoles for a while when the next console comes out.
