And its demographic appeal hits riiiiight at home with TVA.
im curious what leads you to believe men pretending to be women is TVA's demographic :smugpipi:

as for the show. It's alright though genius princess, commentary on the villainous and ascendance of a bookworm got me far more invested.

How did this become its own subgenre? It's oddly specific.
because isekai makes them tsunderes and that naturally leads to "why are they like this i can fix her"

jokes aside it's just a common starting people for isekai novelization males get to be the hero girls get to be the rich bitch who steps on the hero.

Genres of isekai:
  1. Villainess
  2. Edgelord monster MC powertrip where they brutalize everyone
  3. I became (insert creature and/or object) and it had no effect on the plot
  4. I have (insert seemingly useless power) which is actually the best power of them all
  5. I became a noble and fixed my country with cheat skills/perfect self
  6. MC gets spawned in a dungeon and has to level up and choose between options (always chooses the right option) to get out
  7. MC is/gets a dungeon and has to protect/manage it
  8. MC is overpowered but wants to live a normal life (everyone in the world is an intolerant warmonger)
  9. MC has a mundane power slice of life
  10. MC is super weak for like 3 seconds and then gets some cheat skill from a goddess or a dragon or whatever, and sometimes also befriends them
  11. MC has earth technology which allows them to win every time
  12. The world is a game MC played so they know all of the speedrunner minmax strats
  13. Obligatory harem story where MC collects waifus
Mix and match these for literally every isekai of the last 20 years

Even my favorite isekai bookworm is a combination of 5 and 11, what sets it apart is mostly execution

Overlord is 2 and 12
Slime is 3, 8 and 10
You get the gist

My #1 to date is "Leisurely Life of a Nun," which has just the right amount of slice of life, srsbsns and the heroine being screwed over by accident. Only manga, though.

I have absolutely no idea, particularly given that as far as I'm aware, the villainess trope doesn't actually exist in otome games (shoujo anime is a different matter).

becoming a slime had huge effect on the plot? but other then 3 those are fairly spot on.

But you forgot gets summoned as the op hero but is murdered/hated/framed for rape and is banished or exiled.

could probably phrase that better but meh.

No, it didn't. He gained the ability to transform into other creatures in the first episode, and he got a human form a few episodes later.

It literally has no effect on the plot. He becomes a blue haired twink literally instantly. He could've just been a dude and had ability steal, the prejudice by other nations could've just been choked up to hanging out with monsters.

Same shit with the girl who becomes a spider... and the only change is that she gets spiderman powers and later becomes basically human, or the dude who becomes a sword and can talk and move on his own despite being an inanimate object.

Isekai has the coolest concepts but squanders all of it. In the end most isekai boils down to "Powertrip story", "Slice of life non-story" or "Episodic story with no direction" that's it that's fucking it, consume your slop.

Things that happen:
  • Meets a dragon
  • Becomes overpowered
  • Kills wolves
  • Allies with goblins
  • Goes to moria
  • Returns from moria
  • Meets goof trio
  • Romances a chick
  • Kills a demon
That's it, that's the first volume of a 25+ volume series my guy.

I mean i don't blame you for forgetting whostits but you forgot whostits.

which eventually leads to the orphanage and dealing with TEH CHURCH id says thats a pretty big effect on the plot.
which leads to angels trying to purge the world like the anti spiral are it's senpai

Hell im pretty sure that one of it's many spinoffs which i don't read is if he didin't become a slime though im too lazy to check if i just made that up.

Ironically that whole thread is probably the worst one and comes out of nowhere lol, I think the entire story would've been better without it.

it is SUPER weird. especially with some later revelations which have technically already happened in the anime but no one actually knows that yet.

It is a fun concept as an idea so i can at least give it some minor points for trying to be original or playing around common tropes or whatever but still.

Also people are way too quick to forgive him for eating their friend.

Wasn't she gonna die anyway? It comes outta nowhere. The kids subplot is pointless imo, it goes nowhere. The church does do things though but I feel like it's less them and more just the girl who MC has the hots for that's tied to this.

It was mostly for world building as far as i'm aware. Giving us a reason to anticipate Rimaru meeting jackass mage guy (one of the demonlords) and to talk about summoning and reincarnation's rules.

Summoned Heroes are always from Japan though not always the same time period. Shizu is from WW2???? japan with Zero planes bombing some rice fields she was transported to slimeworld by jackass mage and had a fire elemental shoved inside her because "strong fire mana" or whatever presumably from the bombs dropped on her

It was a forced familiar contract which ate away at her already weakened body though as I recall if she just let the ifrit rage for a while it may have slowed or even reversed the damage but because of other hero lady whats her face she wanted to stay human so for the rest of her days she basically just became a wandering hero.

hero lady what's her face also trains captain lady of the holy knights as a plot seed for later.

then slime happens and she get's ate and just to spite rimaru he comes up with the super potion thing an episode or three later.

there's also some spoiler bits that technically take place before and after my summary because time travel IS involved because why not.

Whatever, I feel bad talking so much about something so mediocre.
