The Civil War was the start of the end of our unity. It started the death of state identity divorced from this phony brand like loyalty founded in gay kitsch that exists now. The industrial revolution that followed in the coming decades didn't help the situation either, having people move to the big cities or entire states away from their birthplace eroding culture. The states were firmly divided from them on in any real sense. Got even worse in '60s and all the decisions out of the Warren Court. We are just a gay economic block now.
Good national is rooted in racism that's what makes it honest and why in Britain it's so stomped out
American nationalism is civic and comes from the nation's apprant strength which is why it's so useful for controlling a population how/why would you resist "The greatest nation on earth"?
