I don't get gacha players. Like, if you want to spend real-life money on anime tiddies, you can commission an artist and you'll get unique custom art that's designed exactly to your specifications, rather than gambling on the chance of getting the PNG you want.

For Genshin Impact, specifically, you get to play the character itself, and utilize it in pretty much all gameplay aspects - so it's on the developers to make systems to continue using the characters in so that people keep spending. For this particular fanbase, that means putting them in your house, or playing cards with them, or going on "dates" with them, so expect more content based on making the player care about the characters they spend on or want to spend on.

On the other hand, gambling addiction is a serious issue, but the developers would never put a set price on the characters in the shop whenever they release. Why spend $20 on a character, when you could potentially spend $200 after a run of bad luck on pulls? That's why the game makes millions per day of operation, and why HoyoVerse is able to make so many other games at the same time.
