Now, it was nice to hear other people say that the shows they used to like had gone to shit, and most of what they said mirrored my own thoughts, but they never really moved on to what's next. They're still stuck on complaining about Star Wars and Doctor Who and Marvel and whatever else without any sort of consideration for what was next. There is some value in being able to articulate what's wrong with those franchises, but it doesn't mean anything if you can't recommend alternate entertainment to replace it with.

The scene that's stayed around & has grown long ago moved beyond bemoaning the situation. These days it's about documenting the decline, the stupidity and mocking the results. The titles might be outrage bait, but the content that works on any of the video platforms doesn't actually work that way and hasn't for a long time. As for recommendations, they'll give plenty but there's very little that coming out new that's even touching "good". If you're more Movie focused, it's basically a wasteland and probably will remain so for a while. This isn't a function of hating new stuff, but the simple reality is the structure of modern Hollywood-based production is functionally incapable of writing something good that isn't a long-running series that well pre-exists the current period.

We've re-entered the phase of the early video internet where making fun of bad movies was quite the trend. Having seen a lot of actually Bad Movies, I quite enjoyed the entire cycle with The Acolyte because it's always humorous watching people be first exposed to truly horrific levels of incompetence. "The Room" was better written than a Disney Star Wars show that cost at least $180 million USD.

That said, Nerdrotic (Garry) has understood quite well that Streaming has radically replaced a huge chunk of the mid-budget movies that people used to rewatch on DVD/VHS. So they're always looking for something to talk about, which is why he had like 15+ hours of streaming on House of the Dragon Season 2 (they liked it, but there was some self-inflicted writing issues), but, at the same time, if you're streaming a lot the primary discussion points will always revolve around the fact the Entertainment Industry & their media lackeys are in a full-scale war with their audience. There's a reason those like us are on a Vtubing forum, is there not? But the harsh reality is the standard, general audience content is basically all so compromised by corporate stupidity that the best case scenario is something like Deadpool & Wolverine which at least trying to be entertaining.

If you want stuff you haven't seen before, I'd recommend pulling up top 10 lists from 2014 going backwards. That's when stuff started going to hell.
