I honestly trust nobody except the talents at this point, they are the only people who know what goes on in the company.

I do find it quite fascinating how you tend to be very candid/provocative on twitter, just throwing out baseless speculation like candy and replying to reactionary takes from people, but then suddenly become a lot meeker, more reasonable and measured when on here. Johnny Depp is Captain Jack Sparrow. For all intents and purposes he IS the IP but the character is not his.

It's different though. Other people wrote the character's lines, most of his characterisation is from movies which were massive group endeavours, and other people play the character (e.g. at Disney theme parks). Whereas vtuber characters are generally extremely personal creations and this is part of their appeal.
(I don't think companies reasonably can or should give away IP for free, but I do favour business models that put some ownership in the hands of the creators - I think there are better ways to fund a model and a debut than having a company take permanent 100% IP ownership)

Vtubers owning their own identities wouldn't make the industry much better. IP management is a minefield that even very experienced vtubers run afoul of frequently. The smart ones would benefit, but it would leave a lot of less well-educated and business-savvy vtubers in positions of responsibility they aren't prepared for. It's a bit like saying that instead of letting the government pay you in fiat currency, you should be given gold or silver so you truly own your wealth. Some people would massively benefit, but most would just squander the opportunity and get taken advantage of in various ways.

I'm in favour of a talent getting ownership of their IP after they've made the company profit equal to their initial investment costs plus a mutually agreed-upon percentage. Companies shouldn't be able to fuck with a talent arbitrarily, but neither should the talent have the power to destroy the company in a fit of menhera pique. Checks & balances.

I personally thinks there are pros and cons for both approach.

But the guy himself acknowledged he know nothing about the scene and decide to not comment and that and that earned my respect more than people who blab about things without knowing.
And vtubing are not the first time corpo tries to produce streamer. There is this notorious group called Faze, which offer a 10% revenue share contract on ALL earnings (they take 90% on merch, sponsor, donations). It got revealed when one of their biggest streamers decided to sue them to get out of said contract. This is the kind of streamer org the average normie/twitch streamers know of.

The vtubing itself is in a weird space, corpo are already unprofitable as fuck with the death rate of 99.99% after 2 years. Hololive can afford losing their biggest streamers, but not, actually not even Phase would do well losing their top 2 right now. There is also most of the western girls being uncooperative menhera (see the current EIEN debacle). On the other hand, most corpo enters the scene expecting just needing to front the live2D cost and do nothing else. I don't think there's a pefect answer.

It's not very comparable because every movie with Jack Sparrow in it will always have a giant "Johny Depp as Jack Sparrow" in every promotional materials released and in the movie itself. Vtubing and Jack Sparrow is different in that way.
Yes there are people who do not want their vtuber account to be linked with their IRL account like Mint. But the argument is that the person themself should be making that choice not the corporation
