?Maybe Sakana isn't some god level business man people are touting him to be.
All I've seen for the past four years has been people memeing on Sakana for failing upwards. Celebrating Muumi for saving the company after Sakana almost broke it. Phase Connect surviving when everyone else died because it fucked up the least, rather than on account of some sort of brilliant business plan. He's believed to be a tech bro, which isn't usually considered "Good businessman," either.
Never have I seen anyone call Sakana a "brilliant businessman."
I mean, I'm not disagreeing, but that's still a far cry from being called a god tier businessman. So let's put memes and shitposts aside for a moment and give Sakana at least some credit, because not all of his success is down to luck. He earned the money to start Phase Connect by selling a previous business he founded, and while a successful business is partly luck, you have to work pretty hard to get that luck as well. That experience gave him knowledge of how to run a business startup, as well as giving him experience in managing online advertising, budget management, and general CEO duties, which is pretty good knowledge to start a vtuber agency with. When he was having trouble with his talents in the first year, he was smart enough to hire someone to cover his deficiencies with talent management, which is a level of humility a lot of people struggle with. As for selecting talents, I don't know how he does it, but right now, he's only lost two (perhaps three) vtubers out of twenty-eight talents hired over the last three-odd years. That's a really high talent retention rate, which says that whatever he does to help retain talents and keep them motivated to work for Phase Connect seems to work pretty well.
Behind that high level of autism and desire to have his own Houshou Marine stream as a talent is actually someone (surprisingly) competent.
