I skimmed the article a little, it is to hopefully no one's surprise extremely important in what context and why someone is buying the data.

You don't buy 1 general entry, you buy a million or 10 and then do some big data analysis on it. And very specific data sets can get up to $250 per profile according to the article.
But this is all for porposes incompatible with the dataset of a few wannabe vtubers.

Let them debut, wait a year or two until they are popular, and then sell that info to some stalker, that way you may make even 4 figures per vtuber.

The 2021 audition was likely for the reason companies post jobs they're never going to fill. There's some technical reason they need a position open to serve some other end. If they got VC money right after, that probably part of how they sold things. "We're looking to expand, but we need $X amount of infusion to grow even faster." Which was dumb because they barely have a business model. They're closer to sports agents than they are Cover Corp. They sold probably 50% of their equity for 10 mil. I have a feeling the founders just wanted to make sure they got paid, and they would work out the details from there.

But it also means they have 1 more year to either be making money or have an exit strategy for the VC to activate. VCs want either Up or Out in 5 years.
