Uh, is there a sizeable pool of indie JP 4-views that would consider joining a western corpo? I have zero idea, but on paper it sounds rather unrealistic.

Nevermind if they'd consider joining, there isn't a sizeable pool of JP indie 4-views period. JP in 2024 anyone past a few hundred viewers jumps or gets scouted into a corpo, whether as themselves or as a fresh debut. There are even more tiny corpo in the JP scene, and these are usually considered more respectable to the JP audience - just how Japanese culture is - even if arguably they're more of a scam than EN small corpos. The Twitch equivalent, NicoNico, has been on life support for a long time and so there's no longer a place for grassroots indie vtubers to grow outside of random virality on YouTube. This has taken away the equivalent 1k-5k range that EN Twitch indies can reach at the top end without big corpo branding to boost them. The handful of extremely successful JP indies are usually converts to vtubing from normal streaming back in 2018/2019/2020, or Niji/Holo retirees.

That's a simplified way of looking at it, but it really is the case that so many JP vtubers both mid-sized and small who might otherwise be worth consideration, are actually associated with random corpos you've never heard of.

There's a reason why doki, dooby and mint turned down VShojo my guy, what can Phase really offer that LemonLeaf can't do as an indie/VShojo can't. Why would she want to get her paycheck cut to deal with corpo bs. These corpo escapees are so incredibly huge that small time indies (including filian) clout chased their ass to smooch off their CCV so they don't lack people to collab with. If indie Lemonleaf say "hey Lumi go lick my feet", Lumi would gladly bent down and lick it without LemonLeaf needing to join phase.

She's said on stream that she's Malaysian, but given the large Chinese diaspora, I wouldn't be surprised if she's mixed.

Think about it financially. The yen is at historic lows, and the JP economy has been in the shitter for a while now. If Fishman is offering a low 4 view, a job, it would come with financial backing in a currency far more valuable than the yen with an audience that supperchats in USD. It's a 2-way street. As Fishman digs into their viewer base and gains more influence in the JP market, they dig into the Western market and gain fans who are more wealthy by nature of where they live, increasing their income dramatically if everything goes well. We can debate the success and the viability of such a plan, but it's clear Fishman has a strong negotiation position given the globe's financial situation.

VShojo tried with mikeneko and Kson and realized the errors of their way and just go for small sized JP indies now.

1. How do you dodge the mistreatment allegations when wrangling talents being lazy/unresponsive?
2. Do you have experience in managing catfights/bitchslaps between talents? If so, how do you stop yourself from creating another DV statistic?
3. How do you make money without inviting sponsors/advertisement into the game? Taking from the talent doesn't make it attractive unless there's major support for projects behind the scene.
4. How do you even invite sponsors, advertisers and investors?
5. In EN vtubing, traditional arts (singing, playing, acting, painting) are being left behind for a more generalist idea of an entertainer. Do corpos still value those things or did they lower change their standards?
6. How important is the country of origin of a talent? The people crave for the latinas.
7. That talk about "all genders welcome" is usually a front, right? Everyone knows women are the main target for bringing the big bucks.
8. Most vtubers' staff is usually young people, and young people have a very different view of hierarchy and authority -they usually rebel. How do you keep stuff under reigns within a more progressive headspace?
9. How much is staff paid, anyway? Considering most support team would work in a home-office position, I'd imagine you hire cheaper labor from south-east asia, latin america and similar places.
10. In the end, is it a good idea to search for a wife in vtubing? They say that crazy girl pochi grips just like the socks they make them wear.
