It's not Japan per se, it's long distance travel on commercial airlines. You're getting everyone's coof rather than the local stuff you're adapted to, and you're trapped in a little tube with hundreds of them.

This is just an A.I conversion, but I rather like it so far. I think with a little more refining, this would make a great little merch item. Maybe a keychain thing. I can't do anything with it right now because I'm at Dokomi, but I'd like suggestions and comments for potential refinement of this design. When I get home I can remake it in Inkscape as a proper piece of vector art for further adjustment.
